FAQ
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a way of working with emotional and relational difficulties which involves the exploration of thoughts and feelings, present and past. Counselling can help you to manage your life better by changing the way you respond to difficulties.
There are times when we need to be heard in a profound way by another person.
This is important at critical times in our lives, for example when we experience relationship difficulties, divorce, bereavement, depression, or perhaps when we face a difficult and important decision. Or sometimes we experience feelings which we can neither account for, nor control. They may be longstanding or recent in origin.
Counselling can help you find a way forward.
Will I Have To Talk About Things That I Would Prefer Not To Discuss?
No. I will encourage you to talk about many aspects of your life, and will encourage you to express your feelings, but your wish not to discuss a particular issue will be respected.
Is It Confidential?
The sessions are essentially confidential, but in the case of abuse to children or acts of terrorism or if you were causing serious harm to another person, there would be a legal obligation to break confidentiality. You would be informed and this would only be done with your knowledge.
What Should I Do If I Can't Attend a Booked Appointment?
Phone and cancel your appointment as soon as you are aware that it is inconvenient. Another appointment can then be arranged for you. If you fail to attend without cancellation the full fee is charged.
